Great night of rugby last night fellas, and despite the slightly uneven scoreboard (7 - 40), many positives to take.
We had 21 players in attendance, even with 2 late no-shows, so potentially a full match-day squad, which I don't think has happened since the heady days of the class of 2012. This meant we could actually cope with various enforced changes in personnel, including in the front row. Massive respect to those who put in a shift at the coal face, especially Isaac who turned up straight from work and went straight into a scrum!!
We were tenacious and persistent in all phases, especially in the scrum and the loose, but we were undone when early-season rustiness caused some errors in attack. This caused a two-point swing each time because a) our attack broke down and we didn't score and b) Guildford were exceptionally sharp at exploiting their opportunities, and more often than not, they did score.
Still the game was played in a great spirit, was watched by about 100 people, and we were generously entertained by our hosts in the clubhouse afterwards.
Huge thanks to all of you who turned up to play, hopefully you enjoyed it, and will be back for more on 18th December when we play Reeds U21 at Woolmer Hill.
