In just two short years, Women’s Rugby at Haslemere RFC has established itself as an active and well-organised team within the club.

With board level representation and support from England Rugby, Women’s Rugby at Haslemere is now implementing an active recruitment drive with ambitions to grow.

Head coach Joanna Oomen, herself an ex-Dutch international player, is the driving force for Women’s Rugby at the club.

“We play touch rugby with the emphasis on fun and fitness. All age groups are welcome from 12yrs and up. If you’re looking for a team sport that keeps you fit and is really social, rugby could be for you. All you’ll need to take part are a pair of trainers and some comfortable training clothes”

Club chairman, Richard George, adds “Last year, Haslemere RFC was privileged to host the England Women’s national team for a three-day training camp. This sparked considerable interest and we are delighted to be actively supporting the development of Women’s Rugby here and within the wider community”.

The club has recently signed up to the RFU’s Inner Warrior campaign which is aimed at developing Women’s contact rugby. Oomen concluded “Rugby is now one of the fastest growing female sports in the UK. Haslemere RFC is delighted to be partnering with the RFU to introduce a more competitive, contact element of the game to those that want to develop in that direction”.

Women’s Rugby train at Haslemere RFC on Sunday mornings between 10.15 and 11.45am throughout the season.
