The boys faced some tough competition but they embraced the challenge and went on to play a successful first tournament of the season.
The first match was against Cranleigh Cubs, a home side so the pressure was on. Haslemere started well and scored the first try. There was some great running, as ever, by Paddy Kerr who was rewarded with tries. He was supported by other members of the team and Charley Earl and Jasper Campbell defended with gusto. Haslemere succeeded in defeating the opposition and won the game 4-3.
In our next match we faced Cranleigh, another home side! Once again, the boys scored some good tries. Tom Poole showed how he can weave in and out of players with skill, the end result being a try. Felix Brockdorff also showed his ability to run up the pitch with ease and score. The result of this game was another win - 5-4.
Next up was Farnham and the boys continued to play some good tag rugby. Haslemere fought to get the ball over the try line and Jack Lang finally managed to score by sneaking it into the corner, resulting in a try. Hugh Cruttwell and Stanley Wyatt were tremendous in supporting their team members at all times. Coming back from what perhaps what might be defeat the boys managed to pull it out of the bag and the end result was a 5-5 draw.
A very tired group of boys then went on to play Guildford. This was always going to be a tough match. The boys played well but they were not rewarded with a win.
The under 8s have started the season well. With some work on defensive lines and spacing we should see some good tag rugby this season.
