A great away fixture - brilliant performance

We were invited to play at Farnham for a friendly fixture and 19 children from Haslemere went along on what was a cold misty day. The ground initially was hard and the first few games were kept to 'touch' to allow enough time for the ground to soften up.

The touch games proved difficult for the boys but they defended as well as they could but after a while moved onto full contact.

The boys played in two teams and the skill levels between the teams were slightly mixed so to give newer children plenty of chances to learn and play with those more experienced.

The A and B teams won all their games with the exception of the final game where Haslemere were below numbers and although they played out of their skins they didn't get the results they would have liked.

Overall everyone played well, the rucks were much improved and the scrum halves showed that they could establish quick ball in much better style than we have seen previously. We played aggressive rugby and put tremendous pressure on our opponents in all our games. Some injuries results but our strength, aggression in the forwards and the creativity and speed of our backs showed that these children have a bright future on the field of rugby. Well done to everyone and especially to the new boys this season who are pitching up and showing that they can contribute on an even keel to more experienced players.

Thank you as well to parents for bringing your children. Even though it was a cold day they showed that they can run around, keep warm and enjoy their rugby.
